My latest obsession: Iced Earl Grey Matcha Latte
My last review was published in December, but don't worry, this blog isn't dead!
I have four drafts rating different matcha that are waiting to be finished. I needed a month away from any sort of caffeine, matcha included, and reintroducing it has been more difficult than I thought; seems like I got very sensitive to it.
I also noticed that I prefer to reduce my caffeine intake to 3-4 times a week max, instead of drinking multiple cups of tea, especially matcha, a day like I used to before, and I make them weaker now. This slows down my rating, together with being rather busy lately :)
Until I can finish my reviews, I wanna share my recent obsession with you: Iced Earl Grey Matcha Latte. I am not on social media, but I assume it stems from there and I am just late to the trend, but so be it.
The way I make it is:
- Brew Earl Grey, but with little water, so doesn't take as long to cool down (or is easily cooled down via ice cubes after brewing).
- Let it cool down, and if you have the time, maybe put it in the fridge.
- Sieve matcha, add cool water and whisk.
- Add the Earl Grey and, if needed or wanted, ice cubes.
- Add milk of your choice (oat milk for me).
I currently use Noritual Lab's Saemidori matcha for this (review coming soon-ish) because I think using a coarse, very bitter and cheap cooking matcha for this would not be as enjoyable, and this one has a really nice, nutty taste. The Earl Grey adds citrus and fruity notes with a hint of black tea taste, so it helps when the matcha has different and more complex notes than just grassy bitterness :)
Enjoy.
